The Cape Peninsula Mountain Chain forms a high-lying spine all the way from Cape Point to Table Mountain above the city. Most of this high lying ground is part of the Table Mountain National Park, which also includes Boulders Beach and its penguins, and Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens that showcases South Africa’s fabulous floral heritage as well as hosting some great concerts among the flowers. Table Mountain is the soul of Cape Town – its emotional heart and touchstone. Many Capetonians escape to the slopes of the mountain on weekends and after work as a regular – well, it’s almost a pilgrimage. There are literally hundreds of walks on the mountain. Cape Town is the epicentre of the Cape Floral Region, which is a world heritage site. Another great thing about the Peninsula and its mountains is that Cape Town has virtually two different climates in one city. When the wind is blowing on one side, the beaches should be warm and sheltered on the other – and even when it’s raining on one side, you may get bright sunshine on the other.

Motoring news from South African and around the world.
To celebrate the success of the Ferrari brand in Formula 1 for the past 60 years, the company has decided to launch a special edition of the 599 GTB. The new model, called 599 GTB 60F1, will be made available through Ferrari’s new Tailor Made program.
Three “liveries” will be available for the 60F1, each inspired by some significance in the Scudueria’s involment with the sport. The first finish is based on the same dark crimson hue that Froilan Gonzalez’s 375 F1 was painted in when Ferrari first won at the 1951 British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
To honour the marque’s 60th victory (also at Silverstone), the second livery package will be based on Fernando Alonso’s 150 Italia – with white touches on the front bumper, front fenders and roof arch, as well as the tricolour on the rear. The 150 Italia 2 livery is based on the same package, but limits the white paint to the bumpers and eliminates the tricolour.
But the 60F1 is not just a styling exercise – it also gets the stiffer springs, thicker rear stabilizer bar and stickier rubber over the 20-inch alloys from the HGTE package. Inside, the 60F1 boasts Sabelt (European) or Recaro (American) Alcantara and superfabric-finished seats with four-point harnesses. A commemorative plaque bearing the signatures of Alonso and Gonzalez is housed on the facia. Read More…

SEVILLE – In a word, it is “epic”. I knew the F10-generation M5 would be good before I even got to Spain (the international launch venue for BMW’s latest super saloon) because I had read reviews of the car penned by overseas-based motoring scribes. BMW “M” cars are also among the finest in the business, usually class-leading in each segment they contest, but shortly after becoming acquainted with the newcomer, I came to realise: the all-new M5 is a real beast of motor.
If you are reading this then you probably already know the headline figures. It packs a twin-turbocharged V8 that thumps out 412 kW between 6 000 and 7 000 r/min. That is coupled with a peak torque value of 680 N.m delivered on a 4 250 r/min plateau between 1 500 and 5 750. Read More…
